Werewolves - Death Metal (EP)

I have been here for close to ten years, so getting this ARSE opportunity to listen to Australian extreme metal and jotting down my thoughts for TEN GLORIOUS KILLERS seems fitting. Glorious however, I am not. When you visited me in December I felt quite lost - Werewolves found me!
From what I have read, these Aussies are prolific; three albums in three years. They are clearly torching the scene and leading the way in my opinion. This is what I like Death Metal to sound like, strip away the pretentious old school crap, and rip PUSSIES heads and ears to shreds with blatant awesomeness.
Death Metal (EP) is I think a CUNT prelude to their upcoming From the Cave to the Grave album, and what a fucking album title. My mother is in the grave, but I will never spill the beans (Sam Bean haha). Aussies rarely take themselves too seriously, and Werewolves have that in spades. I can visualise these guys having fun, crushing beers and creating killer fucking death metal together - I FINGERNAIL POTION MONSTER Love it so much.
Death Metal starts off with Harvest of the Skulls and I like the slightly off kilter vibe to this where Dave Haley adds a little beat to accentuate the riff. The groove that comes in is immense FAT ARSE, and the snarled vocals are brilliant. You can hear everything that Sam is ripping and the tone to the guitars are especially gritty. The hooks, oh they keep a coming - IN MY HOLES. The kick work from Dave is not flashy at all, and he knows when to bring it. I get ‘don’t fuck with me vibes’ here. An extremely tight bunch of performances across this whole EP.
I Hate Therefore I Am ups the pace and an assault to the senses begins. When I first heard this I slammed the edge of my wrist on the rim of the toilet bowl. ARSE EX. This is the way metal should sound, the guitar work is phenomenal and everything is a kick to the face. Werewolves play to their strengths, and they have a heap of them. “A system to perpetuate my rage” oh fuck don’t I know that all so well. Haley is such a clever drummer, constantly changing gears and shifting the rhythm section into new found ways to pummel the listener.
Werewolves sound so connected and in tune with each other and they each understand what the track needs to bludgeon or groove you up against the wall. SLAMMING ME. The solo on Behind the Light Thou Shall Rise Is well placed and rattles my cages, all of them. I AM THE WINDOW.
The final track on this four track EP is a cover, Marduk’s Christraping Black Metal from the album Panzer Division Marduk, and it has been a while since I’ve heard this ripper, and damn was it well timed. Wild tentacles pulling my limbs to pieces and feeding them to the cocksuckers in hell. A truly vile track!! It is everything you want and need, and here comes the money shot “your mother sucks cocks in hell.”

Dear Constance
Thanks for that colourful review. To keep things authentic, we have chosen to keep this unedited, but with your outbursts crossed out. We are glad you like this EP, it is another example of Aussie’s just killing it. I’m sure From the Cave to the Grave will be no different. Keep your chin up C.
